The town of Henley has existed since long before the Norman Conquest in 1066. Although the date of origin is uncertain the Red Lion Hotel was originally built in 1531 to accommodate the craftsmen and their apprentices who constructed the 16th Century Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin.
