Constant Troyon was always interested in landscape painting, producing many studies in the forests of Meudon, Compiegne and Saint-Cloud. He presented his first works, still influenced by his Neo-Classical training, at the 1833 Salon. His meeting with the painter Jules Dupre led to Dupre encouraging Troyon to work out pleine air, observing and appreciating the wild locations of the forest of Fontainebleau as well as the aesthetics of Theodore Rousseau, Camille Corot and Narcisse Diaz de la Pena. However, while still remaining loyal to his friends, Troyon was gradually moving towards animal painting, and achieving considerable success with it. He liked painting dogs, and revealed an exceptional talent as a colourist within his hunting scenes.

We do not compromise on material costs - our canvas is imported from the USA, and prepared in London, England. Reproduction prints come on titanum primed genuine artist's canvas. They are waterproof and archival, reproducing excellent fine details and color. Overall canvas size is 16.54" by 11.69" (420mm by 297mm), and image size is slightly smaller to account for an approximate one inch border. Canvases come unframed and unmounted, and although they may be stretched, this is not at all necessary. These exquisite canvases are suited to traditional framing, and look great with or without glass, depending on personal preference.
