Stephen Roberto da Silva ( Rio de Janeiro , c. 1844 - Rio de Janeiro, November 9 of 1891 ) was an important painter , designer and teacher in Brazil during the second half of the nineteenth century . He was the first prominent black painter from the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts , and became famous for his still lifes and is considered one of the greatest exponents of Brazilian art in the genre.
